Hotel and art-artisanal craft centre: The project consists in redeveloping the former Cannelle fishing-tackle factory. The program has two axes: a hotel/restaurant and an arts-and-crafts centre. We are maintaining the existing balance between the buildings and nature (the banks of the Loire) without altering the perimeter. The existing buildings and their façades have been preserved. The project is built within the volume of the existing constructions. Only one building between the old main residence and the industrial buildings has been demolished and replaced by a new building with transparent façades. On the Rue Boutreux, which currently has an opaque image, openings have been made in the walls to make the hotel spaces visible, but also the “workshops building” which offers views of the Loire. These intermittent openings give a rhythm to the façade as a whole and reveal the new elements without disturbing the overall perception. Mesh-patterned ironwork elements make up the three “signals” around the project. A first one is in front of the entrance to the hotel/restaurant, visible from the Port des Noues; a second is in front of the entrance to the workshops buildings, seen from the Rue Boutreux; and a third is at the angle of the western end of the building, visible from the Loire. Art and craft training institute: The project consists in creating a training institute for the arts and artisanal crafts. The site of this operation is within the perimeter of former hangars of no architectural interest and in a context where the landscape is dominant. The presence of a row of plane trees, the proximity of the banks of the branch of the Loire and the view over the wooded spaces on the opposite bank create a strong natural presence. The building is situated within an existing green space and appears as a volume within the park. Its garden has been developed in the spirit of the park and strengthens the adjacent green spaces. But it is located along the same alignments on the Rue Boutreux, without direct attachment to neighbouring buildings, thus allowing the first glimpses of the Loire to appear to pedestrians in the street before they arrive at the park. The building itself is low, having a ground floor only and then gradually rising to include a +1 level on the garden and the view over the landscape. The materials of the façade are continuous and are also used for the roofs. This metal cladding takes on a darker colour in tones of red to accompany the palette of colours prescribed for the area. This continuity of building skins, again, creates the impression of an object positioned in a park and broadly open to the landscape.
