The bottling and storage facility for Clément rum is more than a technical installation.
It is a “room” (pièce) of the historic estate that is on the long list of buildings that have contributed to its history and its renown.
The architecture of the 100-meter-long double hangar is inspired by the distillery room, but with another function and on another scale.
The roof structure, with its broad overhang, designed like a folded sheet of paper, without tie beams or collar ties, complements the historical vocabulary of the plants and warehouses with today's techniques.
It will be visible from the exterior through a large glassed tympanum located on the visitors' exit route.
Its long black walls interpret the appearance and colour resulting from the effects of the black fungus generated by the rum vapours.
The functional spaces (personnel facilities, offices, laboratory, technical facilities) are derived from the industrial space. They are designed as metal “boxes” that serve as support for signage recounting the different types of rums that are handled here.
On the east tympanum, next to the glass partition, stainless-steel vats will be arranged like a set of organ pipes.
All industrial functionalities are respected to the letter, but they are used to compose a special building representative of a principle of excellence that has held sway in this place since the eighteenth century.
